‘Earlier we opted for the softer option, but now…’: Dinesh Karthik on the changed approach of the resurgent RCB | Cricket news

NEW DELHI: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik on Thursday highlighted a shift in strategy for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), suggesting the team has moved from a ‘softer option’ to a more assertive approach in the ongoing Indian Premier League . IPL).

The change has played a major role in the team’s revival as they look to make a strong impact in the upcoming matches ahead of the IPL 2024 play-offs.

Karthik’s comments reflect RCB’s determination to take a tougher stance in their gameplay, with an emphasis on aggressive tactics and fighting spirit.

RCB, who are languishing at 7th place with 8 points after four wins from eleven matches, need to win their remaining three matches to have any chance of making it to the play-offs.

The team’s new approach aims to outperform competitors and achieve greater success in their competitions. RCB, known for its passionate fan base and talented squad, are keen to turn around their fortunes and make a mark in the tournament.

Karthik clearly indicated that there is still a long way to go for RCB, who are rising again after three straight wins, but they need to maintain the momentum.

“We have reached the stage where we have to win every match. We have won three in a row but there is still a long way to go. We have to try to repeat things that we have done well. Bowling in good areas, taking on against bowlers and keep the pressure on the bowlers. Things that have worked for us, they have to repeat again and again,” Karthik said before the start of the do-or-die match against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.

“Earlier we opted for the softer option with the bat but now we opt for the harder option. We are trying to put pressure on the bowlers. The bowlers have been taken to the cleaners, the pitches are good and the boundaries are short.

“I’m not into wickets being completely in favor of batters, I think there should be an equal battle between the bat and the ball. What I hear is that ultimately people love those 270-280 totals. People who watch the game, who matter. There is a lot of freedom as a batsman, but there is also pressure, you have to be consistent and score those runs,” Karthik added.
