Guyana: Couple attacked by bandits while returning from volleyball match, woman raped

Guyana: A gruesome incident from Region 4 has come to light after a couple was beaten, robbed and raped by two bandits while returning from a volleyball match.

On the way back, the couple was stopped by two bandits. After an altercation, the robbers started beating the husband, causing him to become unconscious and the bandits to rob him and leave him on the street.


The bandits then attacked the man until he became unconscious. They then grabbed the woman and tried to rape her. She cried helplessly for someone to listen to her and help her in the situation.

Before fleeing from the location, they also robbed them and took away the valuables and cash.

Some residents from the area rescued the couple from the situation and took them to the hospital for medical treatment. They also immediately informed the police about the incident.

According to reports, the woman is an 18-year-old woman who was raped by bandits and the husband, who is 24 years old, was beaten up by the robbers.

Police immediately responded to the case and visited the accident scene. After inspecting the area, they took over the camera images. The incident was captured on the CCTV cameras.

Information collected by police shows that the couple went to watch a volleyball match on Tuesday evening. The unfortunate incident took place around 1:03 am, while they were on their way back from the match, when they were attacked by the robbers.


The residents of the area are furious and have expressed this on their social media accounts. A user named Anita Boodram Mandhar commented, “Oh my God, this is sending shivers down my spine. I hope that the police or residents can use the camera footage to help identify the perpetrators and bring justice. Sorry for the young couple”.

Another user named Patricia Pierre sent her prayers for the couple to get through the situation, saying, “Oh, what a sad turn of events. I could imagine the cruelty inflicted on that young couple. I wish them a speedy recovery and hope the bandits are captured. . My prayers and thoughts are with them at this time.”

The third user, Paula Bowman, expressed anger at not being able to even walk freely, saying: “Can you imagine?? I pray that the couple recovers quickly, but the terrible bandits. . Must receive the harshest punishment ever imposed. They are never allowed to roam free.”

The residents and authorities are in shock and are praying for the couple’s speedy recovery. The police and the administration are working to ensure the safety and security of the country’s people by punishing the suspects and installing CCTV cameras on the streets.
