United We Play comes to Uttarakhand; trials held in Dehradun

The trials for United We Play (UWP), the flagship grassroots football program of leading tire manufacturer Apollo Tyres, were recently conducted in Dehradun where over 250 young footballers participated with great enthusiasm. Ultimately, 40 talented young people from the trials were shortlisted for the next round of the program.

The trials were held at the Pavilion Ground, where young hopefuls from Dehradun and neighboring states lived
areas in the Under 14 and Under 17 categories turned up in large numbers to show off their skills
impress the judges.

The United We Play program is a grassroots training and talent development initiative
in 16 cities in India and key countries in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA) region, supported
from Manchester United to encourage young football talent and give them a platform to showcase
their skills with the aim of motivating aspiring footballers to continue playing and introducing them
to global training methodologies.

The fourth edition, which kicked off in the presence of former Manchester United and Frans
footballer Louis Saha in Kolkata earlier promises to be much bigger and better with a year-round
program, reaching more than 25,000 young footballers across the country.

In recent months, the program has already connected more than 600 coaches around the world
country with Manchester United Soccer Schools, where they received exclusive training and
access to Manchester United’s curriculum and certificates. MUSS is also busy conducting

The first phase of the fourth edition of United We Play will previously be run by domestic coaches
young footballers will get the chance to impress coaches at Manchester United Soccer School
(MOUS). The best artists from different locations will participate in the grand finale of the
competition, and the winners will receive a trip to Manchester, with various experiential activities in Old
Trafford and Carrington at Manchester United, including a matchday experience, training at the
academy team, interaction with the legends and much more.

Louis Saha, as he officially kicked off activities for the fourth season of United We Play
program, had earlier said at the launch in Kolkata, “I am honored to have been invited by
Apollo Tires will help launch the fourth season of United We Play. This is a huge opportunity for everyone
rising footballer, and I would like to thank Apollo Tires for creating this fantastic opportunity
to inspire and develop the next generation of youth footballers. Participants don’t just learn to play
the Manchester United way, but also learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline and
determination, which will help them in the future.”

The first three seasons were a huge success and received an overwhelming response
16,000 players from the country participating in the program which consists of field trials,
master classes and workshops. Last season there were seven young footballers, including four from India,
who had the opportunity to visit Old Trafford and take part in exciting activities such as match day
experience, training session with Manchester United Soccer School coaches and a chance to interact
with the club’s legends.
