Bronson breaks out the clubs to take down Quincy

QUINCY – The Bronson Viking softball team kept their undefeated streak alive in the Big 8 Conference with a two-game sweep of rival Quincy on Wednesday, winning by scores of 17-1 and 9-3.

With the sweep, Bronson maintains their lead in the Big 8 Conference with just one doubleheader remaining, a home game with Springport scheduled for May 14.

Bronson packed up their bats for the trip against US-12 on Wednesday, as Bronson teamed to outscore Quincy 29-9 during the two-game sweep.

“We came out and attacked the ball on offense, which was good to see,” Bronson coach Becky Gray said. “We work hard defensively, and it’s coming together. Getting two wins was big for us tonight.”

Game one was an offensive explosion for the Vikings as Bronson hit Quincy 16-2 in the 17-1 win.

Bronson jumped on Quincy early and never really looked back as a 2-1 first inning lead for the Vikings continually increased throughout the game, with Bronson scoring four runs in the second, three in the third and eight in the fourth for the 17-1 victory.

Ashlynn Harris picked up the win on the mound for Bronson after pitching four innings, allowing two hits and one earned run with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Harris helped her own cause at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Roni Bir also had a multi-hit game, finishing 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Brealyn Lasky finished a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Ciara Blankenship, Lydia Wells and Mya Webb also added doubles in the win, while Wells and Webb chipped in RBIs.

Danika Skirka took the loss on the mound for Quincy after pitching four innings, allowing 16 hits and 17 runs, eight of them earned, with five walks and one strikeout.

Alyssa McCavit led the offensive effort with a triple, while Kaylee Modert added a double.

In Game two of the Twin Bill, Bronson took the early lead and held off a Quincy comeback attempt, with the Orioles scoring three runs in the fifth to close the score at 5-3 after five. Bronson came back and added four huge insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, wiping out the 9-3 victory.

Bronson hit Quincy 13-7 in the second win, while also taking advantage of three Quincy fielding errors.

Mya Webb picked up the win on the mound for Bronson after pitching six innings in the start, allowing seven hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.

Lydia Wells took the big stick for game two of the sweep, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Harris had another big game at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, while Blankenship added a single and a double with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Lasky also had a big game at the plate with a single and a double with two RBIs.

Danika Skirka took the loss on the mound for Quincy after pitching six innings and allowing 13 hits with nine runs, eight earned, with one walk and one strikeout.

Alyssa McCavit brought the big bat for Quincy in game two with a home run and three RBIs, while Payton Gross added two hits. Josie Mescher added a pair of singles in the tough loss.

The loss drops Quincy to 11-10 on the season, while Bronson improves to 16-8 on the year and a perfect 10-0 in the Big 8 Conference.
