Hyderabad (Telangana) (India), May 9 (ANI): After teaming up with uncapped left-hander Abhishek Sharma to flatten the Lucknow bowling attack en route to a lopsided win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, the explosive Sunrisers Hyderabad Travis Head heaped praise on his opening partner, saying the 23-year-old batsman has an “exciting talent for Indian cricket”.
Head and Abhishek smashed the LSG bowlers to a pulp, completing an easy 10-wicket win and chasing the target of 166 runs in just 9.4 overs in the City of the Nizams on Wednesday.
At the post-match press conference, Head talked about his record-breaking partnership with Abhishek, who hit a blistering 75 off just 28 balls.
Head praised his opening partner with whom he teamed up for their third over 100 opening stand of the season.
“Abhishek Sharma is an exciting talent for Indian cricket, quite exceptional. We complement each other. It’s a lot of fun to be around him. He’s very excited and thinks about the game,” Head said after the match . press conference.
The power play, a phase of the match that the Sunrisers have dominated so far in the tournament, set the stage for this win. They scored a whopping 107 runs in the powerplay overs, virtually eliminating any hopes of a comeback that Lucknow might have entertained and taking their team to within touching distance of the target in less than 10 overs.
The sustained and ferocious attack by the SRH openers was simply too much for the LSG bowlers.
After setting a reasonable and combative target of 167 on the board, the Sunrisers, building on the opening duo’s performances, galloped home in just 9.4 overs. The Willow Bearers’ fireworks reaffirmed the team’s formidable batting line-up, which is perhaps one of the most feared this ongoing IPL season.
“Yes, I am very happy with the way we are going in powerplay and also happy to see how we scored runs outside powerplay today. During the timeout we talked about NRR (Net Run Rate) being important. Very glad that was correct,” he says. added.
LSG opted to bat first after winning the toss. The visitors got off to a slow start, managing just 57 runs in the first 10 overs and losing three wickets. Skipper KL Rahul played a slow knock of 29 in 33 balls, with a four and a six.
In the second half of the innings, Ayush Badoni (55* in 30 balls, with nine fours) and Nicholas Pooran (48* in 26 balls, with six fours and a six) turned things around with a 99-run stand, creating a score of 165/4 in 20 overs for LSG.
In the 166-run run-chase, openers Travis Head (89* in 30 balls, with eight fours and eight sixes) and Abhishek Sharma (75* in 28 balls, with eight fours and six sixes) launched what looked like a never-ending ending the onslaught on LSG batters, allowing SRH to chase down the total in just 9.4 overs without losing a wicket.
SRH is at number three in the rankings with seven wins, five losses and 14 points. (ANI)
