Abhishek Sharma is ‘exciting talent’ for Indian cricket, says his brother Travis Head

Head’s comments reflect the wider sentiment in the cricket world. Sharma’s explosive batting display has undoubtedly fueled excitement about his potential for the Indian national team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) cemented their reputation as an attacking powerhouse with a dominant 10-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The architects of this demolition were the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, whose explosive partnership left the LSG bowlers helpless.

Dominant batting from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head

Chasing a modest target of 166, SRH completed the chase in just 9.4 overs. This emphatic performance highlights the team’s powerful batting line-up, which is currently considered one of the most feared in the IPL.

Sunrises Hyderabad batsman Travis Head said during the post-match press conference about SRH batting:

“Yes, I am very happy with the way we operate in the powerplay and also happy to see how we scored points outside the powerplay today. During the timeout we talked about NRR (Net Run Rate) being important. Very glad it checked out.”

Opening partnership blows LSG Bowling

The foundation for this victory was laid in the powerplay, a phase in which SRH has consistently dominated throughout the tournament. They amassed a whopping 107 runs in the powerplay itself, effectively sealing the match in the first six overs.

The LSG bowlers simply had no answer to the relentless attack from the SRH openers.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma: Match Made in Batting Heaven

While their eight-run start might have sparked a glimmer of hope for LSG, the unhinging started in the second over. Abhishek Sharma’s four boundaries off Yash Thakur were just the beginning. Head joined the party in the third over, hitting three sixes and a four off K Gowtham. This attack forced LSG captain KL Rahul to introduce spin early, but Ravi Bishnoi proved equally ineffective. By the fifth over, Head had reached his blistering half-century and the score had passed 100.

At the post-match press conference, Travis Head praised his opening partner, highlighting the exceptional talent of Abhishek Sharma and calling him an “exciting talent for Indian cricket.”

“Abhishek Sharma is an exciting talent for Indian cricket, quite exceptional. We compliment each other a bit. He’s a lot of fun to be around. He is very excited and thinking about the match.”
