Michibata Punches round trip ticket to NCAA Singles Championship

The sixth-year men’s tennis player will again represent TCNJ at the NCAA Singles Championship later this month at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The action for the first and second rounds starts on Sunday, May 26. The draw for the individual championship will be made by the men’s tennis committee and will not be announced before 12 noon on May 25.

Michibata’s swan song marks his second consecutive trip to the national individual championships after another stellar campaign with the Lions. He sits atop the NCAA Region II rankings and is a remarkable 16-1 in singles doubles this season, including victories over fellow national qualifiers Marko Arboleda (Haverford), Boren Zheng (NYU) and Luke VanDonslear (Wisconsin-Whitewater). ). His only defeat of the season was a match in which he was forced to retire in the first set due to injury.

A two-time ITA Cup qualifier and 2023 Northeast Regional singles champion, Michibata lost a three-set marathon to fifth-seeded Advik Mareedu of Claremont-Mudd Scripps in last year’s NCAA singles tournament. He will look to add to his school record of 163 career wins.
