Reports: NFL to release 2024 schedule on May 15

According to media reports, the NFL will announce the full 2024 schedule on May 15 at 8:00 PM ET.

Teams had been informally told Thursday would be release day, but no reason was given for the delay in a league memo Wednesday afternoon, according to Sports Business Journal.

Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vice president of media distribution, wrote in the memo that more details about the plan are expected in the coming days, Sports Business Journal reported.

One explanation could be to determine which games will take place on December 25, which falls on a Wednesday this year. The league changed its position in late March to allow games to be played on Christmas Day if the holiday was a Tuesday or Wednesday. The four teams involved were scheduled to play in a doubleheader the Saturday before.

Another possibility is that the delayed release will allow teams to better prepare for such a highly anticipated day with social media promotion tied to single-game ticket sales.

Or the NFL could expand a one-night event to multiple days, with game details spread out over several days, as the NFL draft has evolved.

The teams and their fans already know the opponents on their home and away schedules, but not the order, dates and times.

Five international matches have been set for five teams, with most dates and times yet to be determined: in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles, September 6; London, Minnesota Vikings vs. TBA, Chicago Bears vs. TBA and Jacksonville Jaguars vs. TBA; Munich, Germany, Carolina Panthers vs. to be determined further.

Super Bowl LIX will take place on February 9, 2025 at the Superdome in New Orleans.
