Nadal talks about the emotions of participating in Rome – Tennis Tonic

Rafael Nadal expressed his excitement to be back at the Rome Masters tournament, which brings back many unforgettable memories for him. Despite being ranked low due to a long absence, Nadal feels respected and well-treated by players, tournaments and media. He reflected on the evolution of his relationship with fans and the tour, focusing on taking each day as it comes after a two-year absence.

Nadal discussed how his retirement was not caused by a lack of luck or competitiveness, but rather his body’s inability to play and practice for weeks. He reminisced on memorable moments, including his emotional victory in Rome and his first victory in Monte Carlo. Nadal acknowledged the reality of injuries in tennis and the business aspect of the sport, expressing sadness at the absence of key players such as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but accepting that the event would go ahead without them.

Now ranked no.305, Nadal played his last match at 30e of April when he was defeated by world number 23 Jiri Lehecka 7-5 6-4 in the 4e round in Madrid (draw).

Currently, the Spaniard has a composite 6-3 win-loss record this year.

He is also scheduled to play at the French Open. The main draw starts on May 26.
