Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has fallen out with Premier League referees, claiming a series of mistakes have “cost” his side crucial points this season.

Forest have had a number of controversial decisions go against them and they remain embroiled in a relegation battle. They are currently just three points above the relegation zone ahead of their final two games against Chelsea and Burnley.

Forest’s frustration with the referees ran high last month after they felt they were denied three penalties in a match they ultimately lost 2-0 to Everton. After the match they released an angry statement on social media, saying: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – that we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL before the match that the VAR is a Luton fan, but they have not changed it. Our patience has been tested several times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

And Marinakis has now doubled down on those comments. “It’s stressful because of what’s happened since the start of the year with some decisions and points deductions,” he told BBC Sport. ‘It’s not fair what has happened so far.

“Referee decisions have cost us points and this is something that is being repeated over and over again. What we expect from the Premier League and the referees is that these mistakes are corrected.”

And when asked whether he believed there was a vendetta against Forest or simply a series of mistakes, Marinakis added: “It’s a combination. I hope they are mistakes, but it is a repeated mistake and that is what worries me. .

“If it’s a vendetta, it shouldn’t have been a vendetta because you have to be honest. Even if you don’t like someone you still have to be honest. It’s a shame because we have a big appetite for the club and I never give up.
