Sale Sharks confirm FOUR first-team departures, list includes Manu Tuilagi – Page 2 of 2

Cobus Wiese to Bulls

The 26-year-old forward was a key figure for his Premiership club, playing more than 3,720 minutes in 77* games.

Director of rugby Jake White says Wiese’s arrival at Loftus will add more energy and experience to the dressing room.

“We are proud to have attracted quality players into our group and we are very happy to bring a player of Cobus’s capabilities to the Vodacom Bulls. He is a talented lock who can also play on the wing, so he is versatile and that adds to our arsenal. I have no doubt that he also brings experience having spent the last few years in England and that will be an added bonus for our team as we continue to compete in the North.

“It’s great that more quality South African rugby players are returning to the country to play their rugby here. This will benefit our overall product in the competitions we play. It also adds more depth to the options available and improves the quality of the game fans see.”

“We can’t wait to welcome Cobus home.”

Sam James

Lifelong Sharks fan Sam, 29, joined Sale in 2012 and made his first-team debut a year later, seven years after being a ball boy for the club at Edgeley Park.

In an open letter to Sharks fans, Sam said: “I grew up supporting this club and to play even one game was truly a dream come true. I will always be a supporter of Sale Sharks and the decision to leave was very difficult, not only for me, but for my whole family. But the time has come to take on a new challenge.

“It’s so hard to leave a brilliant group of guys behind. I’ve played with some great players, but this group is as good as any. I have built some great relationships and I know they are friendships that will last wherever we play.

“I am leaving a club that is really on the rise and I have no doubt that we will win many trophies in the coming years. I can’t wait to watch it all as a fan. The club has changed enormously in the years I have been here and we have become a real powerhouse. I am proud that I played a small role in that.”
