Dublin celebrates Cycling Month with classes and community rides

DUBLIN, CA – May is National Cycling Month, and Dublin is doing everything it can to celebrate with various events and classes.

Urban Cycling 101 Day 1: Classroom workshop

A free lesson for adults and teenagers aged 15 and over. Learn the rules of the road and the basics of safety, such as equipping bicycles, fitting helmets, avoiding theft, riding at night and preventing accidents. Bicycles are not necessary for day 1.

Urban Cycling 102 Day 2: Road class

Attending Day 1 is a requirement. Includes practice sessions on the bike to practice handling the bike and avoiding hazards. Part 1 includes parking lot exercises, while Part 2 includes on-road practice. Participants can join either or both. A functional bicycle helmet and basic road skills are required.

Cycle to anywhere

The 30th anniversary Bay Area regional event aims to increase the visibility of cycling as a healthy and sustainable transportation choice. Thousands of cyclists are expected. Energizer stations with refreshments are available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin/Pleasanton BART stations.

Cycle to the market

  • Thursday, May 30, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Cycle to the Dublin Farmer’s Market at Emerald Glen Park and receive $5 in ‘market money’ to use at the market. REI Dublin offers free bike safety checks and adjustments for cyclists. Cyclists are also invited to take part in a community cycle ride from the Dublin Civic Center to the Dublin Farmers’ Market. Cyclists will gather at the Civic Center to participate at 5:30 p.m.
